Tom Jones “It’s Not Unusual (Live)” 1965
“Baby Please Don’t Go” by Them (1964)
My singing partner is the lovely Christine Bilich!
Deidre from Savoir Adore with her singing partner at Tuesday’s The Letter All Your Friends Have Written You launch party. For this song she got the standing-room-only Housing Works crowd stomping and clapping. It was beautiful. (by Kain Productions)
Elliott Smith - “Between the Bars” live (1996)
Jeff Buckley - “So Real” (1994)
A (best) friend recently pointed out the similarity between the story of “Don’t Blame Me Now” - a challenging relationship between a calendar pin-up falling in love with the man who’s desk she looks over - and the Vincent Delerme song “Fanny Ardant et Moi”, about his relationship with a photo on his shelf. For kicks, FIRST French, then English!
Fanny Ardant And Me
We listen to some Gregorian chant
She barely speaks and I don’t say anything
This is the kind of relationship we have
Fanny Ardant and me
I spend the evening with Sylvain
While she stares at the wallpaper
We’ve stayed independent
Me and Fanny Ardant
She’s sitting on the shelf*
Between a book by Eric Holder*
An Ikea* white candlestick
And a postcard from Maria
She’s always all black and white
She doesn’t say, “Can’t wait for sunday” anymore
Since I drag her to my parents’
Every weekend, Fanny Ardant
I tell her about the girls in Jussieu*
She doesn’t talk about Depardieu* too often
Yes, we avoid those kinds of subjects
Fanny Ardant and me
There’s something in her looks
That reproaches me with coming back home too late
She’d like to be here all the time
Obviously, Fanny Ardant
She’s sitting on the shelf
Between a book by Eric Holder
An Ikea candlestick
And a postcard from Maria
She’s always all black and white
She doesn’t say, “Can’t wait for sunday” anymore
Since I drag her to my parents’
Every weekend, Fanny Ardant
We listen to some Gregorian chant
She barely speaks and I don’t say anything
This is the kind of relationship we have
Fanny Ardant and me
“Footlight Parade” (1933)
Neil Sedaka - “Calendar Girl” Scopitone (1961)
Just a few highlights:
- excellent limp-paw dance sequences (i.e. 1:25 - 1:40)
- discreet tuxedo costume changes
- tasteful use of voice cracking
This could have easily been the music video for “Don’t Blame Me Now”!
a very Moscot Thanksgiving!
